He has that effortless voice that not only works for great acting, but is perfect for any kind of narration or voiceover work. It's his regal voice, though, that might be his most recognizable feature.
You probably recognize him as the swashbuckling baddie Captain Barbossa in Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Yet the actor has also delved into popcorn fare on occasion. In fact, he won the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 1996 for Shine - and that was his first ever nomination! Not too shabby. Rush is probably most famous for his Academy Award-nominated performances in movies like Quills, Shakespeare In Love and The King's Speech. Yet the person who lends his voice to Minions is none other than Geoffrey Rush, an Oscar-winning actor whose typical fare is nothing like the silly comedy of the Minion world. But who is the narrator of Minions ? The regal voice will be familiar to some viewers, but placing it might be a real challenge. Yet Minions, the Despicable Me spinoff out Jul 10, does just that, employing an actor to narrate several scenes throughout the film. The narrator goes beyond his own perceptions, misunderstandings, and hearsay when it comes to discerning and controlling the actions of others.Most of the time, movies that utilize narrators are serious dramas or harrowing documentaries, not animated comedies released as potential summer blockbusters. There is also an element that the early person narrator does not know what the motivations of the other personalities are unless the person tells them. The early narrator in the best crime novels I’ve read is always present in the present, especially when describing something that happened in the past. When the narrator is one of the main characters, the starting character, the writer is challenged by the fact that that character must appear throughout the scene, have access to and insightful knowledge of the data and descriptions they share, and often rely on relate others must have said to him, not what he himself experienced. Rex Allen started out as a singer in vaudeville, and sang on numerous radio shows before hooking up with a traveling rodeo show. In fact, most viewers probably wouldn’t realize he wasn’t just another character until they eventually saw him on screen during his speaking part – but then again, who knows? Maybe it IS just another character after all… Throughout the film, M:I-GP occasionally uses voiceover narration by Tom Cruise himself to add additional detail or context to what is happening on screen. The film begins by narrating a montage showing all types of spy gadgets used by IMF agents around the world then we see him talk about why there is no one better than Ethan Hunt for this mission (which involves breaking into the Moscow Kremlin). Tom Cruise in “Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol” where he not only acted but also produced the film.
He also narrated his own biopic, “John Travolta Wannabe.” In the latter, he plays himself as a young man who meets and befriends the title singer.
